Cubs Fan Who Saw World Series Team In '45 Loses It At Wrigley In 2016
(CBS) – It wasn't a moment Morton Balaban planned on or even expected, but after supporting the lovable losers for so many years, the emotion just took over as the Cubs punched their ticket to the World Series over the weekend.
His daughter captured the moment on her cell phone as the Cubs bested the Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday.
"We went crazy," Balaban tells CBS 2's Charlie De Mar. "The noise was deafening."
Then he went silent, wiping away tears as he witnessed history once again.
"I didn't realize the emotions that were welling up in me," he says.
His daughter, Beth Balaban, says: "He had his hand up to his face, and I knew that he was emotional and I had to suck everything in to not get emotional."
It's a moment father and daughter will never forget. Even better, they went home with a piece of history, thanks to the bat of Kris Bryant.
Mr. Balaban was actually in the stands back in 1945, the last time the Cubs were in the World Series.
