Cubs Could Be Favorite To Land Fielder
(WSCR) When Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer were given the keys to the Cubs, the duo stressed the importance of paying for future -- not past -- performance.
One MLB expert thinks -- with that moto in mind -- the Cubs appear to be one of the favorite teams to land free-agent slugger Prince Fielder.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports has the Cubs as a 4-1 favorite to sign Fielder, behind only the Texas Rangers at 3-1.
Heyman writes: Fielder is exactly the kind of free agent new execs Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer would want in that he is only 27 and carries the potential to be a cleanup man and foundation player for years to come. Fielder loves hitting in Wrigley Field, which can't hurt, and of course, everyone loves Chicago. The Cubs aren't exactly poor, either. They just paid $18.5 million for Epstein.
Also in the running behind the Cubs and Rangers to land Fielder are the Mariners, Nationals, Blue Jays, Orioles and Marlins.
