Cubs Claim OF Julio Borbon Off Waivers
(CBS) The Cubs claimed outfielder Julio Borbon off waivers from the Texas Rangers Friday.
Borbon revealed the move on his Twitter account and the Cubs later confirmed it.
The Rangers designated Borbon for assignment last week and placed him on waivers Wednesday after failing to trade him.
Borbon is a former first round draft pick (2007) who bats left-handed and throws left-handed.
His most productive season came in 2010 when he hit .276 and drove in 42 runs in 137 games.
Cubs infielder Alberto Gonzalez has been designated for assignment.
