Cubs, Castro Working On Long-Term Deal
(CBS) The Cubs are hoping to lock up shortstop Starlin Castro for the foreseeable future with a long-term deal.
Castro's agent, Paul Kinzer, first confirmed to CSNChicago.com that the two-sides were working on a new contract.
"Yes, we have been talking," Kinzer told the website. "Starlin loves being a Chicago Cub and would like to play there his entire career. I'd prefer to negotiate privately with the Cubs, but yes, we have been talking about a long-term deal."
The Sun-Times reports the deal will cover "four years of arbitration plus at least an option year on his first year of free agency."
Castro is eligible for arbitration for the first time in his career after this season.
