Cubs' Barney Named NL Rookie Of The Month
CHICAGO (CBS) Chicago Cubs' second baseman Darwin Barney has been named the National League Rookie of the Month, for the month of April.
Barney's .326 batting average (29-89), one home run and 14 runs batted in, ranked second among all NL rookies in April. The former fourth round draft pick also had four doubles, two triples, 15 runs scored and one stolen base to go along with a .351 on-base percentage and a .449 slugging percentage.
Barney's 29 hits in the first month of the season were the most by a Cubs rookie since 2008, when Kosuke Fukudome had 32 hits. Additionally, he hit safely in 17 of his 20 starts during April, and batted .500 (10-for-20) with runners in scoring position.
