CHICAGO (CBS) After admittedly making "the wrong read" on a Carlos Pena double on Monday night, Chicago Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney suffered a knee injury while sliding into third.
At first the injury was downplayed, now it looks like it will land Barney on the disabled list. According to The Score's Matt Abbatacola, an MRI on Barney's knee indicated a Grade III sprain.
On the season, Barney is hitting .294 with 25 RBI and a .321 on-base percentage.
The Cubs activated Reed Johnson on Tuesday and Alfonso Soriano on Wednesday, but Barney will join a long list of teammates on the DL: Kerry Wood (blister right index finger), Marlon Byrd (facial fractures) and Andrew Cashner (strained right rotator cuff) are all currently on the disabled list.
