Cubs Apologize For Tossing Ron Santo Card
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Cubs are apologizing for throwing out some things that were found in Wrigley Field's garbage bin.
Cubs Apologize For Santo Card Error
The Cubs have thrown out more than manager Dale Sveum this week.
A giant card signed by fans, presumably meant for the family of the late Hall of Famer Ron Santo, was found in the trash outside Wrigley Field.
"That was an unfortunate mistake and certainly one that we apologize for - for any fan who was offended or saw the images on social media," Cubs Spokesman Julian Green said. "It shouldn't have happened."
Green says the giant card and other items have been fished out of the trash and now they're in the Cubs front office.
"Even one piece of memorabilia that's paying homage to one of our greatest Cubs players ever should not have been tossed into the recycle bin."
Green could not say why the card wasn't given to the Santo family after it was signed in 2011.
Santo died in 2010 due to complications from bladder cancer and diabetes.
