CTA Worker Hurt In Red Line Subway Tunnel
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A CTA worker was injured Monday morning when he fell into a manhole underneath the Red Line subway downtown.
Around 10 a.m., while an electrician was working on routine lighting maintenance along the Red Line tracks between the Lake and Grand stops, he fell into a manhole under the subway, according to a CTA spokesperson.
CTA and fire crews managed to get the worker out of the manhole and he was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was initially listed in fair to good condition.
Power to the Red Line was shut down in both directions and trains were rerouted to elevated tracks between the Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton stops for several minutes while emergency crews helped get the worker out of the manhole.
