CTA Work To Reroute Loop Trains, Blue And Red Lines
CHICAGO (STMW) - Track construction beginning this weekend on the South and West Sides as well as downtown will reroute some CTA trains, and riders are advised to allow extra travel time.
Green, Brown and Orange Line trains will be rerouted in the Loop from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and again on Sunday as crews make signal improvements on the elevated tracks, according to the CTA's website.
Brown Line trains will operate along the inner tracks - following the Pink Line, which is not affected by the planned work -- while Orange Line trains will run on the outer track route normally used by the Brown Line, according to the CTA.
Green Line trains bound for 63rd Street will stop at stations along Wells and Van Buren streets instead of following the normal route along Lake and Wabash streets, according to the CTA. Customers are advised to use the Pink and Brown lines within the Loop as alternatives.
Starting Sunday, Red Line trains in both directions will operate on the same track between the South Side Garfield and Sox-35th stations from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next day while crews perform track maintenance, according to the CTA's website.
The work continues at the same time for the next three nights, ending early Thursday, the website said. During construction hours, passengers at the 47th Street Station must board and exit all trains on the 95th-bound side of the platform until 4 a.m. Monday, and board on the Howard-bound side through 4 a.m. Thursday.
Track maintenance will also affect West Side Blue Line trains starting Sunday, according to the CTA. Trains in both directions will operate on the same track between the Kedzie-Homan and Austin stations from 10 p.m. Sunday until 4 a.m. Monday and again from late Monday into early Tuesday.
All Blue Line riders at the Pulaski and Cicero stations must board and exit all trains on the O'Hare-bound side of the platform.
The CTA advises passengers allow extra travel time.
