CTA Red Line Service Resumes After Switching Problem

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A rail switching error led to major delays on the CTA's Red Line in the Edgewater neighborhood on Monday afternoon.
At about 12:50 p.m., a southbound Red Line train improperly switched to the wrong track while approaching the Granville station, resulting in a split switch. Although initially reported as a derailment, the CTA later said the train never left the tracks.
Instead, one car of the train began making the switch to a different track, and then became stuck.
The CTA temporarily shut down service on the Red Line north of Belmont, and Yellow Line service was also suspended while the problem was fixed.
Shuttle buses were set up between the Addison and Howard stations on the Red Line while the train was moved back off the switch. Normal service resumed by 2:25 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
