CTA: Defective Door Prompts Fire Crews To Respond
CHICAGO (STMW) - Fire officials remain at a South Loop CTA station following a fire on an Orange Line train Thursday evening.
The fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. at Roosevelt Road and Wabash Avenue, fire officials said.
A defective door mechanism on an outside door of a CTA Orange Line train began smoking, CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory said. There was a seven minute delay while power to the door was cut and taken out of service.
The train remained in service and once it reaches the Douglas-Midway terminal, the train car will be taken out of service, Gregory said..
The fire, which prompted an EMS Plan 1, was secured about 6:40 p.m., although crews remained at the scene at 7 p.m.
There were no reports of injures, Rosado said.
