CTA Bus Driver Critically Hurt In Crash With Dump Truck
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A CTA bus driver was critically hurt and had to be cut out of a wreck when a bus collided with a dump truck and two other vehicles on the Far South Side Wednesday night.
The four-vehicle crash happened at 9:47 p.m. near 103rd Street and Stony Island Avenue, police News Affairs officer Ron Gaines said.
A bus on the No. 6 Jackson Park Express route was turning into the 103rd Street Garage when a truck traveling westbound on 103rd Street struck it, CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said.
Two other vehicles were also involved in the collision, Gaines said, citing preliminary information.
The bus was not in service when the crash happened, and the only people aboard were two CTA employees, including the driver, Lukidis said.
Paramedics took both people on the bus, as well as the dump truck driver to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious-to-critical condition, Fire Media Affairs said. Emergency crews had to cut the driver out of the wreckage.
The driver of the third vehicle was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, fire officials said.
A cause for the crash was not immediately known Wednesday evening.
