CTA Brown Line Riders: Get Ready For Shake-Up
CHICAGO (CBS) -- 38,000 CTA riders are getting ready for a commute shake-up Monday.
The Wells Street Bridge is in the midst of a nine-day shutdown, which closes all traffic that uses the bridge to cross the Chicago River into the Loop, including the Brown and Purple CTA train lines.
This is the second nine-day closure in two months during the Wells Street Bridge Reconstruction Project.
A leaf of the superstructure is being replaced, and that also includes replacement tracks for the CTA trains that run over the bridge.
Brown and Purple line riders will have to revive some of the alternate routes they practiced last month to get into the Loop.
When it comes to the Brown and Purple Lines, CBS 2's Courtney Gousman has a breakdown of what you need to know.
-Some marked Brown Line trains will run only between Kimball and Merchandise Mart.
-Others will be rerouted to Red Line stops from Fullerton to Roosevelt.
-Another way into the Loop are the free bus shuttles, which will be waiting at Fullerton, Armitage,
Sedgwick, Chicago, and Merchandise Mart stops along the Brown Line to take commuters to the Brown Line's Loop stops.
-There are no changes to the Purple Line, but Purple Line Express service is suspended.
"It's definitely an inconvenience for our customers, we understand that. we ask them to plan ahead, be patient," says CTA representative, Tammy Chase,
During rush hour, CTA is recommending that riders allow extra time, or use alternative transportation options.
Trains resume next Monday, May 6, in time for rush hour.
