CTA Blue Line Disrupted After Person Jumped Onto Tracks
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Normal service on the Blue Line has been restored between Jefferson Park and Western/Milwaukee after a person jumped onto the tracks Monday morning, according to an alert from the CTA.
According to a witness, a train enroute to O'Hare came to an abrupt stop at the Belmont stop shortly before 7 a.m. and power was immediately turned off.
Firefighters on the scene were attempting to remove the person from underneath one of the cars, according to the witness.
According to Chicago Police, the person jumped in front of the train in an apparent suicide.
Commuters were advised to use the No. 56 Milwaukee buses as an alternative.
Around 8:20 a.m., the CTA issued this update:
Shuttle buses were made available to provide connecting service through the affected area.
Normal service was restored just before 8:40 a.m., according to the CTA.
