Crystal Lake Crash Leaves 2 Injured

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (CBS) -- Two young women were injured Monday morning in a two-car crash in Crystal Lake.

Around 6:50 a.m. Monday, Crystal Lake police came to the scene of a crash at Illinois Route 31 and Three Oaks Road. A 2003 Toyota Corolla driven by Lisa Jurgens, 28, had collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Amanda Obermeier, 18.

The women, both of Crystal Lake, both suffered injuries. Jurgens was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry in an unspecified condition, police said.

Police say Jurgens had been driving south on Route 31 and was trying to turn left onto Three Oaks, when Obermeier entered the intersection on a yellow light. Jurgens turned in front of Obermeier, resulting in a collision that left Jurgens' car lying in the middle of the intersection and Obermeier's off the road.

Police had to close part of the intersection after the accident, and diverted traffic northbound traffic onto Three Oaks Road while restricting southbound traffic to one lane for about half an hour.

Jurgens was ticketed for failure to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left.
