Crown Point School Buses Hit With BBs
CROWN POINT, Ind. (STMW) -- Two more northwest Indiana school buses were struck by shots from a BB gun Friday morning, Crown Point Assistant Police Chief James Janda said.
The Crown Point School Corp. buses were both empty and on their way to pick up students for morning classes, Janda said.
"It was a lot like the shootings that took place Jan. 4," Janda said.
The shootings took place on 109th Avenue about a mile east of Interstate 65 to Arizona Street. The area is rural and residential, he said.
"The first driver thought a rock hit her bus and the second one happened two or three minutes later," Janda said.
Similar shootings have taken place along 109th in unincorporated Lake and Porter counties. No injuries have been reported.
"We have no leads right now even though a Crown Point businessman has offered a $1,000 reward," Janda said, adding that the shooter faces felony charges of criminal recklessness and likely more charges from the Lake County Prosecutor's office.
"We've stepped up patrols in the area, but we're still asking the public to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police," Janda said.
Anyone witnessing a shooting or the suspected shooter should call 911, he said. Any leads can go through the police at (219) 663-2131.
