Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured

CHICAGO (STMW) - A Chicago Heights motorist died and a passenger was seriously injured when a car crashed into a Gresham neighborhood pole Saturday night on the South Side.
A 1998 Oldsmobile traveling south on Vincennes Avenue left the road and crashed into a pole about 7:30 p.m. at 8543 S. Vincennes Ave., police said.
Christopher Ball, 22, was pronounced dead at 8:33 a.m. at Roseland Community Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Police identified Ball as the driver.
A 28-year-old man in the car was initially taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but police said early Sunday his condition was upgraded to serious.
Nobody else was injured.
Police said it was not immediately known why the motorist lost control of the car. An autopsy is scheduled for later Sunday, police said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
