Crain: Would 'Love' Opportunity To Close
(WSCR) With Sergio Santos traded to the Blue Jays, the White Sox have an open closer position.
Jesse Crain, who is preparing to start his second season on the South Side, said he's definitely interested in taking over the ninth-inning role.
"I'd love to get an opportunity to close," he said. "I've never had that opportunity to throw in the ninth inning. I think I did it one time last year and was able to get a save. With the Twins, we had Joe Nathan, who was so good. It's something that I've always wanted to do. It's something I've pretty much done my whole life before I was in the big leagues. I'd love to get the opportunity to see what I can do with it."

During his first season with the White Sox, Crain was 8-3 with a 2.62 ERA in 67 appearances. With just a few weeks until the start of spring training, Crain has already voiced his desire to close.
"When I was with the Twins and Joe Nathan went down, I didn't really say anything," Crain said. "I just kind of let it go. Last year, when there really wasn't a spot, I was new and I just kind of let it go. This year, when I was talking to Coop, I texted him and said I'd like to have an opportunity to try it. I just wanted to let him know how I felt. I think that's a good thing so they know that I'm interested."
