CPS Opens Eye Clinic For Students
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The Chicago Public Schools and the Illinois Eye Institute are joining forces to help children who have problems with their vision.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Regine Schlesinger reports, Dr. Sandra Block of the Eye Institute says the old Princeton Elementary School at 5125 S. Princeton Ave. – which was closed – now has been converted into a fully-staffed eye clinic.

"Children are being provided comprehensive eye exams," Block said.
Children who fail vision screenings in school, or notice they're having problems seeing, are referred to the clinic and bussed there.
For those without insurance, the cost is picked up by the clinic through a number of private benefactors.
School officials say they clinic not only will correct children's vision problems, but also improve their ability to learn.
"Their purpose is to ensure that children have an opportunity to succeed in an academic setting," Block said.
Right now, the clinic is seeing about 30 students a day, but that will eventually expand to 100.
