CPS Offers Whittier Parents 5 Options For Library
CHICAGO (CBS) Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman has presented parents at Whittier Elementary School with five proposals for placing a library at the school where parents staged a six-week sit in demanding a library.

At a face-to-face meeting with parents on Friday, Huberman said CPS wants to put a library in the building without interfering with newly upgraded science labs, computer room and art space.
Parents ended their six-week sit-in at a field house outside the school Wednesday night after getting a written assurance from Huberman that CPS would not tear down the field house where parents had set up a temporary library.
The parents told reporters after the meeting that they will review the school board options for a library in the school, but also suggested there may be insufficient room inside the school.
They said they'd continue seeking other alternatives including possible rehab of an abandoned police station in the area.
The parents said they believe the school system is dealing with them in good faith and their sit-in in the field house is over.
Parent Evelyn Santos said parents will tour the school and report back to Huberman in two weeks. She said she's not happy, just okay with the school board options, since nothing has yet been settled.
