Coyote Attacks Small Dog In Glenview
GLENVIEW, Ill. (CBS) -- A couple in north suburban Glenview is traumatized after one of their dogs was carried off in the teeth of a coyote early Monday.
It took just seconds. A coyote snatched a Yorkie named Pebbles and took off.
"They just swooped in very quickly," the dog's owner, who asked not to be identified, told reporters.
His wife had just left Pebbles and her sister, Paxil, out in their back yard around 6:15 a.m.
"Along the side of the house, there were two coyotes. And the coyotes attacked the smaller dog and took her away," he says.
The coyote plucked the 4-year-old Yorkie from the ground and ran, near Roosevelt Avenue and Rinehurst Drive. Their owner, barefoot and screaming, ran after them.
"She was just screaming 'Help me! Help me!' And then it stopped after a little bit," neighbor Sharon Meyer says.
Locals say they saw a coyote in Glenview months ago.
"It was bigger than a German Shepherd. It was really big, and it was just running," Vicki Silk says.
Pebbles' owners searched but found no sign of the dog. They say her sibling, slightly older and bigger, seems to feel the loss.
"It's a hard time for her as well," said the who who talked with reporters.
