Cowher: I Plan To Coach Again
(WSCR) He's given no indication as to when, but Bill Cowher said he plans to coach again.
Speaking with Neil Best of Newsday, Cowher simply answered "yes" when asked if he planned on returning to the sidelines.
Cowher, 55, coached the Steelers for 15 seasons, including a Super Bowl victory in 2005, before retiring after the 2006 season.
Though he's been away from coaching for six years, Cowher doesn't think his time away will affect his ability to be successful when he returns to the NFL.
"I think it's a non-issue," Cowher said. "I (coached) for 27 years. You don't just forget things overnight. One thing about this job is it's been really good because it allows me to study the game and do features on the game. I want to know what I'm talking about so I'm watching tape. It's not like I'm out of it. I know how the game is changing."
Last week, Boomer Esiason, Cowher's colleague at CBS, said the former coach would be the perfect fit for the Bears, who are looking for a coach after Lovie Smith's dismissal.
"This is a great franchise – it's got a great history," Esiason told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "I always kidded Bill Cowher. I said,'You were on the sidelines of the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the great franchises of the AFC, one of the great franchises with great history and great tradition.' The only other teams that I could ever see coach Cowher coaching would be the Giants or the Bears because he would be the perfect guy for both of those cities. But I don't think he wants to go back to coaching. I'm not starting rumors here. I'm just saying that's how we view the Bears."
