Couple Selling T-Shirts To Benefit Fallen Arizona Firefighers' Families
(CBS) -- A Prospect Heights couple has set up a fundraiser for the Arizona firefighters who died in a wildfire last month, because the tragedy hit close to home.
WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports Tim and Marta Kelliher's 24-year-old son interviewed with the Granite Mountain Hotshots firefighter team last year, and now works with a similar crew in southern California.
T-Shirt Sales To Benefit Fallen Firefighters' Families
The t-shirt company owners felt compelled to act after 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots firefighters were killed when flames overran their position while battling a 2,000-acre wildfire on June 30.
"When we heard about it, we kind of felt like there's got to be something we can do for these families," Tim Kelliher said. "There's 19 families that have their main bread winner gone."
They're selling memorial t-shirts, featuring the fallen firefighters' names, for $25 each. After taxes and shipping, Kelliher said $15 from each t-shirt will go to the firefighters' families.
