County Works Toward Development Of Tax Delinquent Properties
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Cook County is working with 13 local governments to help get tax delinquent properties back on the tax rolls.
As WBBM Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, if an owner has failed to pay taxes on a dormant piece of property for two years or more, it can be sold.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle says the county is making it easier for municipalities to make no-cash bids on those properties, to turn them over to developers.
John Schneider, deputy planning director for the county, says the plan could turn some eyesores into tax generators.
"It's not just real estate tax. It's also taking property that's detrimental to the community; property that's vacant that's been out there, and the job creation, and fulfilling some of the plans and missions that the communities are looking to have happen within their area," Schneider said.
Thirteen municipalities were given control of 98 parcels of land this week. South suburban Markham, for example, will help a pet food distributor relocate there.
