Council Panel To Consider Rooftop Gardens In Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago City Council's Zoning Committee today could clear the way for restaurants and urban farmers to turn rooftop vegetables into a profitable enterprise.
Ald. Brendan Reilly is sponsoring a measure that would legalize commercial rooftop farming, Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.
Reilly said the proposal would allow all sorts of herbs, spices and produce to be grown on rooftops.

"All sorts of wonderful green produce that people expect to see in their salads in an evening when they're out," he said.
Reilly says many restaurants want to grow their own produce and commercial farmers could profit as well if they use the expansive roofs of buildings in commercial areas and downtown.
