Correctional Officers Charged With Organizing Attack On Prisoner
(STMW) -- Two Cook County correctional officers were charged Thursday with gathering a group of inmates to beat anther prisoner inside the jail last year.
Correctional officers Delphia A. Sawyer, 31, and Pamela R. Bruce, 30, were each charged with one count each of obstructing justice, perjury, official misconduct and mob action, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said it received "credible information" that Sawyer and Bruce took two detainees and facilitated an attack on another prisoner last February, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators interviewed more than 60 people during the investigation.
Sheriff's police took Sawyer, of the 8700 block of Covington Drive in Justice; and Bruce, of the 0-99 block of East 87th Street, into custody without incident, according to the sheriff's office.
Bruce has been a correctional officer since July 2006 and Sawyer since September 2006. Both were stripped of their badges and official identification.
The women are expected to appear for a bond hearing Friday morning.
