Cops Use Stun Gun On Man Who Tried To Disarm Officer After Beating Girlfriend
AURORA, Ill. (STMW) -- A west suburban man severely beat his longtime girlfriend, then attempted to disarm a police officer who responded to a call at the couple's apartment Saturday night.
Aurora police were sent to a home in the 1300 block of East Indian Trail around 9 p.m. after a caller reported Keith Brown, 29, was throwing and destroying his 22-year-old girlfriend's belongings and trying to hit her.
When officers showed up, they were told by witnesses that Brown was beating her inside the apartment. The closer they got, the louder they could hear the screams coming from behind the locked door, a police report said.
Officers forced the apartment door open, and saw Brown standing over the victim, who was .lying on the kitchen floor with her hands over her face, the report said. The woman was in tears with blood covering her face and shirt.
Police ordered Brown to place his hands in the air, but he never complied. Instead, he ran into a bedroom and closed the door, eventually cracking open the door to look at officers.
One officer pointed a gun at Brown, the other pointed a stun gun. Police said Brown responded by saying, "You don't know what I have behind this door .... Just ****ing shoot me. Put a ... bullet in my head. I'm not afraid of you."
According to the incident report, additional officers arrived, one of whom had a shield. That officer forced his way through the bedroom door, where Brown attempted to disarm one of the officers. Brown was forced to the ground, but refused to put his hands behind his back, police said.
He was stunned in the middle of his back by a stun gun, and eventually complied. One officer was injured in the scuffle.
Police reports show Brown's girlfriend suffered a broken nose, cuts that required stitches along her mouth and lips, and sore hands and arms. She told police the injuries were a result of a beating from her boyfriend of four years.
The victim said she and Brown had gotten into an argument on Wednesday over allegations of cheating. On Saturday, Brown returned to the apartment after work to gather some of his things, then began breaking things. She said she called 911, and he became increasingly angry.
The victim said he began to kick and punch her, a beating that continued into the hall when she tried to escape. Brown lifted her up with both hands, and threw her down, then continued to kick and punch her again before taking her back into the apartment.
A witness, who was at the apartment, told police that she was scared, and fled the apartment to call 9-1-1.
Brown allegedly told a witness that when he got home from work that evening he was going to beat the victim "into a coma."
Brown was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated resisting, and attempting to disarm an officer. He is being held in the Kane County jail on a $300,000 bond.
