Cops: Suspect Left Pic Of Himself On Stolen Laptop

RIVERSIDE (CBS) -- A burglar who took a laptop computer from a west suburban home may have unknowingly given police a pretty good lead -- a photo of his face taken by the computer.

Riverside Police are now asking for the public's help to identify the suspect.

On Aug. 22, officers responded to a report of a burglary on the north side of the village, a release from Riverside police said. The burglary occurred between Aug. 19 and Aug. 22, and one of the items taken was an Apple Macbook Pro laptop computer.

The burglar got into the home by shattering the back window.

On Aug. 25, the stolen Macbook was recovered from an electronics store on the 6100 block of Cermak Road in Cicero. Checking the computer for possible leads, the owner and detectives found an image of a suspect. He apparently forgot to delete a partial photo of himself from the computer, police said.

The only description is that he is a white male believed to be in his 40s.

"With the assistance of the burglary victim we were able to recover a partial photograph of the suspected burglar," Riverside Detective Sgt. David Krull said. "I'm hoping that someone will recognize this partial photo and call with information."

Anyone who recognizes the suspect should call Sgt. Krull at (708) 447-2127, ext. 284.
