Cops Stake Out Dunkin' Donuts Rooftops For Charity
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (CBS) -- All over the Chicago area today, police officers are spending some time on top of Dunkin' Donuts shops.
WBBM Newsradio's Dave Berner reports it's part of a push to get you to donate to Special Olympics.
It's an annual event that never seems to go without a few laughs, as police officers poke fun at the stereotype of cops' love for doughnuts.
Cops On Rooftops For Special Olympics
"You know, it is a good way to do that. It's a great way to help some very wonderful people, and to have a little fun with ourselves," said Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebel.
He was one of many police officers who will be hanging out on top of the Dunkin' Donuts at Higgins and Golf roads, asking customers to donate to Special Olympics.
"You know, it is so fun, because people are so fixated on going to get their coffee. We yell hello to somebody, and they're looking around like an alien is talking to them," Nebel said. "I also bring a box of Munchkins up on top. If somebody's nice to me, I reward them with a gentle toss. If they heckle me, I might be a little bit more deliberate with my toss."
Police officers from throughout the state will stake out Dunkin' Donuts rooftops to collect donations for Special Olympics today. Guests will get a free donut coupon when they make a donation.
670 The Score's Mark Grote will be at the Dunkin' Donuts at 3000 N. Ashland Av. from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.
