Cops Seek Man Who Tried To Lure Kids
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are warning the community after three attempted child abductions have occurred since Oct. 21. in the Kenwood neighborhood on the South Side.
The most recent happened in the 4500 block of South Woodlawn Avenue at Tuesday 7:25 a.m. when the suspect tried to lure a young male to his van by asking him if he wanted a ride to school, a community alert from Wentworth Area detectives said.
The suspect left the area and returned and asked the victim if he wanted to go to a restaurant but the victim ran away, the alert said.
In Tuesday's incident the suspect was described as black, with a medium complexion, a "low" haircut and he was wearing a black sweater and driving a burgundy colored van.
On Monday at 6 p.m., a similar attempted luring occurred in the 4400 block of South Ellis Avenue by a man driving a burgundy van with white stripes, the alert said.
The suspect, who was wearing a black skull cap and sunglasses, approached a young male victim who ran away when the suspect asked him if he wanted to go to a restaurant, the alert said.
On Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. in the 4300 block of South Drexel Boulevard, a male suspect tried to lure a young female victim to a yellow, older model moving van or former ice cream truck, with a picture of a chair and the possible wording of "Gary Furniture'' on its side, the alert said.
The suspect pointed to the victim and then motioned for her to come to the van, according to the alert. In this attack, the suspect was described as being between the ages of 30 and 50, with a dark complexion, unkempt hair and a beard, the alert said.
