Cops Put High-End Loot On Display After Busting Theft Ring
(CBS) -- A recent jewelry heist in the gold coast led detectives to a bonanza of stolen goods -- everything from high-end art to fancy clothes.
The challenge now is reuniting those items with their rightful owners, CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.
It all started with police looking for seven high-end watches -- worth $400,000 – stolen from the Bentley dealership on the Gold coast. Police arrested five suspects. In the hunt for those time pieces, the cops hit a jackpot.
Among the stolen items were dozens of framed pieces of artwork -- some original, some worth hundreds of thousands of dollars –- and high-end electronics, furs and antiques. There's a portrait of John Paul II; a hand-painted cel from Disney's animated classic "Cinderella."
They were likely taken during a combination of daytime burglaries at residences to fraud.
Police will have showings at the police station at Larabee and Division. The items will be on display Friday until 7 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
