Cops: Man Flees Police, Then Rams Squad Car
BOLINGBROOK — A Lombard man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday night after he allegedly rammed his car into a squad car he thought was occupied.
A 23-year-old woman called 911 about 8:45 p.m. to report that her ex-boyfriend was trying to force his way into her residence in the 300 block of Lakeside Drive, according to Lt. Mike Rompa.
When officers arrived, Erik Granillo, 30, was leaving in a Ford Focus and refused to pull over, driving away and onto Interstate 355 with police in pursuit, Rompa said.
He said as police alerted nearby police departments of the chase, "Granillo ... contacted the victim and informed her he was on his way back to the residence with a gun and he was going to shoot the victim and any police."
Rompa said Granillo sped down Lakeside Drive and crashed into the front of a squad car parked outside the woman's home, pushing it into the front yard.
"Granillo believed the squad car was occupied by an officer," Rompa said, adding that Granillo got out of his car and began fighting with police before being subdued with a stun gun.
Granillo and two police officers were taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
Granillo was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, resisting arrest, assault, drunken driving, fleeing from police and vandalism.
