Cops: Driver, 19, Critically Hurt In Crash Was Intoxicated
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 19-year-old driver was allegedly intoxicated when he crashed into a tree on the Northwest Side early Saturday, injuring himself and a passenger.
The crash happened about 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of Montrose and Mobile avenues, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The driver -- 19-year-old Terrence Mills -- was traveling eastbound on Montrose when he struck a tree, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he remains in critical condition early Sunday.
Mills, of the 8200 block of West Forest Preserve Avenue, was cited for DUI, failing to carry a driver's license, transporting alcohol in his vehicle, failure to reduce speed and stay in his lane, and damage to public property, police said.
A passenger was taken in serious condition to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Greer said. Two other passengers refused medical treatment on the scene.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
