Cop Hurt, 5 Arrested After SW Side Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) - A Chicago Police officer was hurt early Saturday when suspects fleeing the scene of a fight crashed into a police car on the Southwest Side.
The officer and a partner were on routine patrol in the 2100 block of South California Avenue about 2 a.m. when they saw a fight break out in the street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
When the officers turned on their emergency signals and approached in a police car, some of the people fighting jumped into a car in an attempt to flee but struck the police vehicle, Greer said.
The officer -- whose age or gender was not immediately available -- was taken to Saint Anthony Hospital with minor injuries and is listed in "stable" condition, Greer said.
Five suspects are in custody in connection with the incident, and charges are pending early Saturday, Greer said.
