Cooper: Without The Playoffs, It Will All Be For Naught
(WSCR) As Don Cooper will admit, before this season began, the White Sox were expected to be a train wreck.
Following a disappointing 2011 season that led to the hiring of the inexperienced Robin Ventura as manager, the outlook was bleak for the South Siders.
Regardless, the White Sox have been in first place for 116 games this season, but Cooper said if the club fails to clinch a spot in the postseason, none of the good from this season will matter.
"The predictions for us were dire," Cooper told The Mully and Hanley Show. "Nobody was thinking we were going to do this. Many good things have happened. For me, personally, if we don't get in, all of those good things fall by the wayside. I could sit and talk to you about some of the good stuff that I think has gone on. There's been much, but again, when you've got a goal and we get our hopes up to make the playoffs and then don't make it, it's going to be disappointing. All that good stuff kind of falls to the wayside."

With seven games to play, the White Sox have lost seven of their last eight games, blowing a three-game divisional lead. They now trail the Tigers by one game.
"Here's the bottom line: Over the last two, three weeks, we haven't been playing the ball we were hoping to play," Cooper said. "We're not playing good in a lot of different areas. We've lost the lead. That's the bad news. The good news is that we've got seven games left to see if we can regain it. It's just not going the way we would've hoped."
