Cooper: 'We Got Our Butts Kicked'

(CBS) In a season full of lows, Wednesday night's 18-7 loss to the Yankees might have been the lowest point for the White Sox.

The game started with two straight bunt hits by Brett Gardner and Derek Jeter and before you knew, the Sox were down 13-1 as Gavin Floyd struggled with his command.

"Listen, we got our butts kicked," Don Cooper said Thursday morning on The Mully and Hanley Show. "We haven't had a game like that in I can't remember how long. But it was painful nonetheless ... we got our asses kicked."

Cooper also wasn't happy with reliever Brian Bruney, who was ejected just two batters into his appearance in the seventh inning.

"Very poor decision," Cooper said. "Listen, he said the magic word ... he got thrown out. We need him in that game. It was a poor decisiona and (we had to) go to someone else. We were hoping to get two innings out of him and we got two pitches. So certainly not the smartest move."

The White Sox have lost five games in row -- two to the Red Sox and three to the Yankees -- and Cooper said that losing to two of the better teams in the league doesn't bode well for the White Sox's playoff chances.

"If you want to make the playoffs, you have to beat the best and we haven't beat the best," Cooper said.
