Cooper: 'Time Will Tell' For Peavy

CHICAGO (WSCR) After his second stint on the disabled list this season, Jake Peavy came back with a solid performance against the Cubs and earned a win. But a solid performance is hardly what the White Sox and their fans expected when they traded for the former Cy Young winner.

For a while now, the fans have been wondering if Peavy would once again look like an elite pitcher.

"Time will tell," White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "If we can continue to keep him healthy, we can give that the best chance of happening."

Peavy's most recent DL trip was due to an groin injury, but that's hardly the only setback he's had in his two-plus seasons in a White Sox uniform.

"Major surgery on his lat, you know, injury with his foot prior to this," Cooper said. "So he's coming out of some stuff and... And I don't think the rest of this year will be over that. I think he's going to be climbing the rest of the year, hopefully, without anything else getting in the way. You know, he's got the ability, he's got the knowledge, he's got the the experience, so I think after it unfolds we'll find out more."
