Cooper On Managing Cubs: 'They Could Do A Lot Worse'
(WSCR) After the firing of Dale Sveum on Monday, rumors are beginning to circulate on who will be the Cubs next manager.
Tuesday morning on The Mully and Hanley Show, an interesting candidate threw his name in the ring.
When asked if he'd be interested in the job, White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper didn't shut the idea down completely.
"You know what," Cooper said, "they can do a lot worse."
"I said it before, pitching is my passion, but I know, I believe in my heart that I can run a team. If I have the right people around me, I believe I can do it. That's not what I'm searching for. I'm searching for the pitching department, searching for us to be good enough to win another championship. We were blessed enough in '05, that's a while ago I know, but that's the goal every year, to get into the playoffs and hopefully win a world championship. I'm very satisfied in doing what I'm doing.
