Cool Temperatures, Winds Up To 40 MPH For Afternoon

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The pouring rain is over now, but plastic bags and other detritus might be flying through the air as the wind gusts to 40 mph.

CBS 2 Meteorologist says a wind advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for the entire Chicago area, as well as the rest of Illinois, southern Wisconsin, most of the states of Indiana, and the entire Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The wind advisory stretches from Minnesota and Iowa east all the way to western Pennsylvania.

As of 11:20 a.m., the wind was gusting up to 30 mph at Midway International Airport, 26 mph at O'Hare, 36 mph at Waukegan, and 37 mph at Peru. The west-southwest winds could gust up to 40 mph.

Cloud cover made for a dreary sky in the midday hours, but Glaros says some peeks of sunshine will be coming later in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the storm system took the warm weather along with it, and temperatures will remain below average over the next couple of days. The high for Monday is 58 degrees, and overnight, the low will drop to 39.

On Tuesday, the winds will be calmer and a high-pressure ridge will keep the sun shining, but the temperature will climb only to 55.

The high jumps to 66 on Wednesday, with a chance of rain returning. The high for Thursday is 59, Friday 53, Saturday 52, and Sunday 55.
