Cookie Monster's 'Share It Maybe'
July 11, 2012 - CBS 2 News at 5AM
You might have noticed that everyone was talking and tweeting about Cookie Monster yesterday. And you probably already know why by now, but we'll give you a hint.
It wasn't because he was finally subjected to a permanent ban from the library for never quite getting the message that they do not serve boxes of cookies there.
It wasn't because of the restraining order that Guy Smiley filed against him after he attempted to eat the game show host's hand at the since-shuttered Mike's Bakery.
It wasn't because he finally came forward on the daytime talk circuit about those creepy singing cookies in his nightmares ("chocolate chippy macaroony…"), which briefly made him so afraid of cookies that he stormed through the wall of Bert and Ernie's apartment – prompting a huge repair bill from 123 Sesame Street owners Gordon and Susan Robinson.
No, it was because Cookie Monster has jumped on the "Call Me Maybe" bandwagon. That's right.
Oh, Cookie Monster has already parodied Barry White, and performed with some insectified caricatures of John, Paul, George and Ringo. But this is 2012, and Cookie Monster has kept with the times. He's parodying Carly Rae Jepsen's breakout hit with his own plea to a near-stranger.
But he's not going to give you his number. He's just wants some of your cookies.
And in the video for the song, you'll find Cookie Monster out of his usual milieu, chasing a bowl of cookies around a corporate office (the Sesame Workshop offices, in fact) – accompanied by a troupe of backup dancers.
But why tell you about it? Why don't you just watch it here?
