Man Charged With Pointing Gun At Police Officers In Hyde Park
(STMW) -- A man has been charged with pointing a gun at police officers Wednesday afternoon in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the South Side.
Aaron McNeil, 27, faces two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer with a weapon and one count each of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
At 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, two Cook County Civil Process Deputies, who serve court documents, were in the 800 block of East Drexel Square when they came upon a shooting in progress, police and Sophia Ansari, a Cook County Sheriff's spokeswoman, said at the time.
McNeil, who was involved in the shooting, then pointed a gun in the direction of the officers and one of the deputies opened fire, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
McNeil, of the 5500 block of South Loomis Boulevard, was subsequently taken into custody, police said. He was scheduled for a bond hearing Thursday.
