Convicted Felon Guilty Of Stealing Car
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (STMW) -- A northwest suburban man with a lengthy criminal history faces up to seven years in prison after being convicted Wednesday of possessing a stolen car.
Jesus A. Garza, 35, of the 200 block of Gertrude Street in Elgin was convicted by a Kane County jury of one count of unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, a release from the Kane County State's Attorney's office said.
At about 8 p.m. on Nov. 15 last year, Garza stole a car that was left running while its owner went inside his home in the 200 block of Seneca Street in Elgin. The owner immediately called police, and within five minutes, Garza was found driving the car a few blocks away.
Between 1998 and 2005, Garza was convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated battery and obstruction of justice in separate incidents.
He faces a sentence of three to seven years in prison when he appears for sentencing at 1:30 p.m. on July 13, the release said.
