Construction Takes A Holiday On The Tollways
CHICAGO (STMW) - The Illinois Tollway is suspending its temporary construction lane closures beginning Friday to accommodate the more than 7 million drivers expected on the tollway system this Labor Day weekend.
But not so fast, drivers. You'll still see some major traffic shifts in place in construction work zones.
That includes on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway between U.S. Route 20 and Genoa Road and on the Tri-State Tollway at the Tri-Level Bridge carrying the southbound I-294 ramp bridge to eastbound I-90, tollway officials said.
The busiest holiday travel day should be Friday, when more than 1.6 million vehicles are expected to be on the roads.
The construction work zone suspension ends Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m. Some work may continue behind barriers to keep construction work on schedule, but it should not impact traffic, officials said.
Tollway officials are also reminding holiday drivers to keep their eyes on the road and to avoid any distractions, such as texting or e-mailing.
