Construction Crews Hit Gas Main On Southwest Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Construction crews hit a gas main Tuesday morning near in the Southwest Side's Garfield Ridge neighborhood, prompting police to reroute traffic.
The broken gas main was at 6422 W. Archer Ave., about a mile west of Midway International Airport, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel Sullivan.
About 10:05 a.m., construction crews at that location hit a gas main, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado.
Both Archer and Narragansett avenues were blocked in both directions for more than an hour around the scene, Sullivan said.
By about 11:15 a.m. the scene had been secured with no one injured, Rosado said.
