Confidence, Time Key To Beckham's Improvement
Gordon Beckham's time in the major leagues has been a roller coaster. But there's reason to believe that this year, and the rest of his career, will be all positive.
"The way he looked in spring training was pretty impressive," former player and current analyst Bill Melton said on the Danny Mac Show. "He's added about 10 pounds, and most of that is muscle or strength. And you know, in spring training he was hitting all foul lines, on the line, his hands a really quick."
Last season Beckham struggled at the plate, hitting for just a .252 batting average with 49 RBI and a .695 OPS, although he did end the season with a .308 average over the last three months.

"I like Beckham overall," Melton said. "I think he's better at second base, because now he's had another year under his belt. So I think he a little more confident out there."
If Beckham continues to play the way he ended last season, and started this season (5-for-11 with a double and two RBI), the White Sox could be much improved on offense, and on defense.
"I think when you look at the White Sox defensively," Melton said. "With [Alex] Rios, Beckham and Alexei Ramirez up the middle, they look pretty good."
