Computer Glitch Keeps Metra From Accepting Credit Cards During Morning Rush

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A computer glitch forced some Metra users to scrounge around for cash this morning in order to buy a ticket.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. Wednesday, Metra says its computer servers went down for ACI, the company that handles the agency's credit card processing.

That meant Metra couldn't take credit cards during that time.

"It did inconvenience some people", said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis. "We did send out an alert to warn them that we're having this issue, and if you can bring cash, that would be better."

Affected by the glitch in particular were those who wanted to buy one-way or 10-ride tickets using credit cards. Cash purchases were still accepted.

Gillis says the problem did not affect most riders because two thirds of passengers use monthly passes and buy them at the beginning of the month.
