Community Group Seeking Donated Clothes, Toys For Fire Victims
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Bronzeville neighborhood community organization has asked for donations to help 10 children whose homes were destroyed by fire earlier this week in the Kenwood neighborhood.
Some families lost everything in the fire on the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard early Tuesday morning.
Six children and their mother in one apartment were rescued by neighbors. In all, 10 children were affected by the fire.
Stephen Mitchell, president of the Bronzeville Neighborhood Collaborative, has put out a call for help.
"They're all relatively young kids, so just think about a fire and at the holidays, and they're literally left with nothing," he said.
The Bronzeville Neighborhood Collaborative has asked for donations of clothing and toys, which can be dropped off at Carter Woodson School at 44th and Evans on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mitchell also offered to pick up donations, if necessary. He can be reached on the group's Facebook page.
