Community Activists To Patrol, March Against Violence In Roseland
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After another violent weekend in Chicago, dozens of South Side churches are pledging to walk the streets to prevent more bloodshed.
As WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, members of Arms Around Roseland were originally scheduled to walk the streets later this spring.
But after a spate of shootings, the 56 church congregations and community groups that make up the organization stepped up their plans.
They will hand out literature and patrol the neighborhood at night in the warm weather, as part of an effort to stop gang violence.
The effort is a partnership with Roseland Community Hospital, which must deal of the consequences of violence. A shooting victim – Lemont Coleman, 29 – died at the hospital Thursday night after being shot while riding in the front seat of a Jeep Cherokee in the 600 block of West 115th Street.
