Committee To Study South Shore Rail Line Expansion
MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) - A legislative study committee will take a look at whether northwest Indiana's South Shore commuter rail line should be expanded.
The Times of Muster reports Gov. Mike Pence last week signed a legislative measure requiring the General Assembly's transportation and infrastructure study committee to take an in-depth look this summer at funding for the South Shore line and potentially expanding it into southern Lake County.
The panel also will consider whether Lake County should have a majority of the membership of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District board, because more riders on the commuter rail are from Lake County.
The board now has two representatives each from Lake, Porter, LaPorte and St. Joseph counties and three members appointed by the governor.
