Column: Guillen, Jenks Having 'Seasons To Forget' After Feud
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After an offseason of feuding, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and former pitcher Bobby Jenks are both having "seasons to forget," a published report said over the weekend.
The feuding was actually between Jenks, now of the Boston Red Sox, and Guillen's son, Oney – although the elder Guillen later began taking shots at Jenks himself.
In December, Oney Guillen slammed Jenks via Twitter, after Jenks criticized the way the White Sox let him go.
He called Jenks a "yellow beard-dipping idiot," among other insults in more than a dozen tweets.
"hahah memo to bobby jenks get a clue u drink to (sic) much and u have had marital problems hugeee (sic) ones and the sox stood behind u," he wrote in another tweet.
Later, Ozzie Guillen remarked about Jenks that he could "easily, easily kill this kid I the paper," and said "I wish I was mad about it, because I will rip his throat out," the Chicago Tribune reported in February.
But now USAToday's Gabe Lacques points out that neither Jenks nor Guillen is having a particularly impressive season.
On Sunday afternoon, Jenks gave up a hit and issued three walks when the Red Sox played the Seattle Mariners, while on Friday, he gave up two runs, Lacques pointed out.
Meanwhile, the White Sox have lost five in a row at home, falling to the Baltimore Orioles 6-4 on Sunday, and Lacques says "many of their woes can be traced to a lack of an effective closer," as Jenks was.
"Better to move on by taking the high road, perhaps, than to point the finger for past failings," Lacques writes.
